Salt Pillow-Plate Static Crystallizer Systems

High-efficiency static melt and solution crystallization for seawater, industrial and refined salt production lines.

Overview & Objectives

Pillow-plate static crystallizers deliver controlled temperature profiles and stable cycles to produce high-purity salt crystals with a compact footprint and reduced energy use. They are well suited for upgrades of medium to large salt plants.

Working Principle

Two metal sheets are laser-welded and hydraulically inflated to form “pillow" channels. Brine contacts cooled or heated surfaces so that supersaturation drives crystal growth. The wavy channels enhance turbulence and heat transfer, while smooth external faces simplify cleaning.

Suggested Configuration (Example)
  • Plant target: ~300 t/day refined sea salt (plant-level).
  • One 20–25 m³ static melt crystallizer with double-embossed plates.
  • Materials: 316L or SMO-254 depending on chloride and impurity load.
  • Plate thickness: ~1.2–1.5 mm per side; laser-welded; pickled & passivated contact surfaces.

Final sizing must be validated via pilot tests with actual mother liquor (impurities such as Ca, Mg, Fe strongly influence kinetics and fouling).
